Dr. Avtar Singh BimbrawDr. Avtar Singh Bimbraw has served at various positions in the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and retired as Senior Agronomist/Professor of Agronomy in June, 2014. He obtained B.Sc. Agri. (Hons.) and Ph. D Agronomy degrees from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and M.Sc. Forage Production from National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana. He has experience in teaching, research and extension work in Agronomy for more than 28 years. He has worked on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants  for 10 years including Ph.D period and developed the cultural practices of Dill Seed on sugarcane for 10 years at Regional Research Station Kheri (PAU), forage and fodder crops on more than 10 years and his interest was in evaluation of genotypes and also developing the production technology of sugarcane, pulses, cotton, fodder crops and also worked on resource conservation technology particularly in rice-wheat cropping system. He guided 9 students for post-graduate degrees in Agronomy. He has 156 research papers in National and International scientific journals, 45 papers presented in conferences/seminars and 57 technical papers presented in Magazines and Newspapers, 8 chapters contributed in the edited books, 4 research bulletins and 3 books to his credits.

He was honored with the Certificate of Excellence for outstanding and extra-ordinary achievements in chosen fields of activity and services rendered to promote greater friendship and India-International co-operation for the year of 2003 and 2004 by Friendship Forum of India. Similarly, Certificate of Felicitation for outstanding and extra-ordinary achievements in chosen fields of activity and services rendered to promote greater friendship and India-International co-operation for the year of 2003 and 2004 by Friendship Forum of India.  Crop Research Award 2004-presented for contributions in the field of Agronomy and good hand –on experience in research and strong current development background in the specialization in Agronomy sponsored by Agricultural Research Information Centre, Hissar. Professor E.P. He was awarded Odum Gold Medal in the recognition of Commendable Research Activities given by International Society for Ecological Communications during the International Symposium on Recent Advances in Contemporary Biology, Environmental Issues & Sustainable Development on 29-30 September, 2007. His name was listed in the Eminent Personalities of 20th Century (First edition) and in The Rising Personalities of India.
